This past summer, an island of asphalt and surrounding lawns at 24th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway was transformed into The Oval, an eight-acre open-air public space devoted to engaging entertainment and daily activities.
Located within easy walking distance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes Foundation, The Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, the Free Library, the Rodin Museum and Sister Cities Park, The Oval made what was a surface lot in front of the Museum of Art into a key destination for summertime fun.
For five weeks, The Oval welcomed food trucks and beer gardens, outdoor film screenings and concerts, as well as tons of family-friendly interactive games, educational events and so much more.
Now, The Oval is set to return this fall, popping back up with food trucks, festive events and fall-themed fun for two weekends Thursday, September 19 through Sunday, September 22 and Thursday, October 10 through Sunday, October 13.
In September, it’s all about fashion with Styled at The Oval events including fashion shows produced by FBH The Agency, free fashion film screenings, local fashion vendors, food trucks, a wine garden, live music and more — all complementing The Philadelphia Collection, a weeklong style series set for September 18-25.
Come October, fall gives way to Harvest at The Oval, with a weekend-long celebration of autumn. The family-friendly community programming is set to include a day of open-air shopping courtesy of PHAIR, a costume party to celebrate Halloween and an Eagles game day viewing party, plus free film screenings, pumpkin painting, hay rides, a petting zoo and plenty of food trucks.
