Now that the holidays are behind us, it’s time to wrap up the season by putting away your Christmas decor and taking down your Christmas tree.
Luckily, it’s easy to recycle your Christmas tree in Philadelphia as a number of local organizations are hosting tree-cycling days throughout the month of January — some starting as early as today. Just make sure your tree is decoration-free before turning it in.
Read on for the city groups and non-profit organizations set to host Christmas tree recycling opportunities starting this week.
City of Philadelphia Streets Department Tree Recycling Program
The City of Philadelphia Streets Department offers tree recycling starting today, January 5 and running through Saturday, January 17.

Greenlimbs Treecycling
Greenlimbs, a local site devoted to sustainability, is once again helping Philadelphians get rid of Christmas trees (and wreaths!) by hosting a treecycling event at five locations throughout Graduate Hospital, Queen Village and Bella Vista.
On Saturday, January 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. just bring down that greenery to one of the four participating locations to recycle trees ($5 suggested donation per tree) and wreaths ($2 suggested donation per wreath).
Recycling locations include the Headhouse Shambles, Carpenter Green and both Philly-area Whole Foods stores.

Clark Park Tree Recycling
Clark Park, a well-loved park in Spruce Hill, is teaming up with UC Green for Christmas tree recycling on Saturday, January 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Christmas trees will be mulched into the soil at Clark Park, and then at a later date, the mulch will be returned to the grounds at Clark Park.
East Passyunk Treecycling
The East Passyunk neighborhood gets in on the Christmas tree recycling on Saturday, January 10. Head to Columbus Square Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to have your tree recycled into wood chips for local gardens and parks.
A donation of $5 is suggested.
